HFO Australia Supports THE Top 2 AUSTRALIAN Championship Supercar Teams 2019

It has been a record breaking season for the Top 2 Supercar teams Shell V-Power Racing (DJR Team Penske) and Red Bull Holden Racing (Triple Eight Race Engineering).

2019 proved to be the most successful year in the history of DJR Team Penske, with an incredible 20 victories across the 32 races, including the Bathurst 1000.

Spokesperson for DJR Team Penske tells us, “Scott McLaughlin had a record breaking year, taking 18 wins on the way to his second Supercars title. Fabian Coulthard was a regular visitor to the podium, including two wins that helped us secure the Teams’ Championship and the coveted number one garage in pit lane for the 2020 season.”

Triple Eight Race Engineering also had a record-breaking year, taking out second spot overall. Coming in at second for both the Teams Championship and Drivers Championship.

“Our HAAS CNC machines are easy to use and quick to set-up compared to some other brands.  We have been using HAAS CNC machines for fifteen years now and that’s not about to change anytime soon” – TRIPLE EIGHT RACE ENGINEERING

Behind the scenes, both teams run HAAS only workshops. There’s a reason why these Australian Championship race teams use HAAS machines. Not only is HAAS a top innovator in the machine tool industry, but their close involvement in motorsports also means that HAAS machines are uniquely suited for the OE and aftermarket automotive industries.

“An important part of Supercars is being able to maximise the benefit a team can gain from the few areas in the regulations that allow freedom of design”, explains DJR Team Penske’s workshop manager.

“Having our own on-site machine shop, complete with state of the art HAAS CNC machines means that our engineers are able to create parts in very short timeframes to allow us to continue development that keeps us at the front of the pack. Without our partnership with HAAS and Alfex CNC, it would be a far more difficult and expensive process.”

Workshop manager Craig Johnstone from Triple Eight Race Engineering says much of their success can be contributed to their five HAAS CNC machines. “Without them we would not be able to manufacture our custom race car parts.

We are constantly developing and upgrading parts and they need to be manufactured quickly and accurately at a moment’s notice.  Our HAAS CNC machines are easy to use and quick to set-up compared to some other brands.  We have been using HAAS CNC machines for fifteen years now and that’s not about to change anytime soon.”

HFO Australia (division of Alfex CNC Australia) is proud to support both championship teams with technical and training support to machinists on an operational level. “We enjoy fantastic service and technical support from HFO Australia, which allows our machinists to stay at the leading edge of the latest techniques in the industry,” explains Ben Nightingale from DJR Team Penske.

“Having this kind of support available to us is extremely important and allows us to seamlessly introduce new equipment, software and techniques to our organisation. Thanks to HFO Australia for their continued support.”

Triple Eight Race Engineering explains how HFO Australia has looked after their team and success over 15 years, “The HAAS factory support is exceptional. They’re always available over the phone to answer any technical questions we might have.  If we have any problems with a machine, they’re here within a few hours to rectify any issues and have us back up and running as soon as possible.  They have a very helpful and friendly team on board to look after our all our needs throughout the race season and beyond.”

What’s next for 2020?

DJR TEAM PENSKE: “It was extremely satisfying [in 2019], with the introduction of the Mustang and the hard work associated with it, to have been able to deliver on and off-track for our supporters and partners. We can’t wait for the 2020 season, with the goal of continuing the fantastic momentum we have built up over the past three years.”

TRIPLE EIGHT RACE ENGINEERING: “In a season that was filled with challenges, 2019 ultimately ended in a string of triumphs for the Red Bull Holden Racing Team. The team found its stride in the back half of the year, hard work and perseverance delivering 24 podium finishes, 11 race wins and the Pirtek Enduro Cup.

The Red Bull Holden Racing Team continued to push the boundaries of engineering within the Supercars Championship, relying throughout upon Haas equipment and technology. Despite several changes to the technical regulations for 2020, the team is aiming to maximise the momentum of 2019 in the hunt for the championship crown.”
